St John’s School has completed another season of competition in the Monsignor Bernardo Girls Softball League.
Along with St Johns, this year’s league consisted of teams from
Christ The King, St Peter and Paul, Our Lady of Pompeii,
St Marys of Swormsville, St Benedicts, Our Lady of The Blessed Sacrament , and St Marys of Lancaster.
The program continues to provide girls from 5th to 8th grade the opportunity to learn the attributes of teamwork and sportsmanship in the surroundings of girl’s softball.
The team was lead by graduating 8th graders: Lindsey Kocher ,
Mary Bukowski , and Sara Schiffler.
Thank you to to the parents and teachers for their continued support.
Finally a big thank you to Carl Fix and the Town of Alden for their help in having St Johns field prepared for our home games.

ST JOHN’S VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM CONTINUED THEIR PLAY IN THE MONSIGNOR LOMBARDO BASKETBALL LEAGUE. GAME 6 OF THE SEASON SAW ST JOHN’S GIRLS FALL BEHIND EARLY AND MAKE A VALIANT SECOND HALF SURGE ONLY TO LOSE A NON-LEAGUE GAME TO ST AMBROSE. LINDSEY KOCHER AND SARA SCHIFFLER LED THE OFFENSIVE SIDE OF THE BALL , WHILE ANGELYN BROWN AND STACEE MILLER HELPED TIGHTEN UP THE DEFENSE. GAME 7 HAD A NUMBER OF LEAD CHANGES ONLY TOO SEE THE GIRLS LOSE A 1 POINT GAME TO OUR LADY OF POMPEII. LINDSEY KOCHER AGAIN LED THE TEAM ON OFFENSE WHILE LAUREN KOCHER AND AMBER BREYER ALSO SUPPORTED ST JOHN’S CAUSE. CONNOR ORCUTT AND STACEE MILLER HAD STRONG DEFENSIVE GAMES HELPING KEEP THE GAME CLOSE. GAME 8 HAD ST JOHNS JUMP TO AN EARLY LEAD AND NEVER LOOK BACK IN THEIR WIN OVER ANNUNCIATION. BALANCED SCORING WAS A KEY FACTOR AS 6 PLAYERS ENTERED THE SCORING COLUMN. STACEE MILLER AND AMBER BREYER HAD THEIR SRONGEST GAMES OF THE YEAR. MARY BUKOWSKI ALSO ADDED HER 1ST POINTS OF THE SEASON. GAME 9 SAW ST JOHNS FALL TO A STRONG NARDIN ACADEMY TEAM. NARDIN’S STRON DEFENSE NEVER ALLOWED THE GIRLS OFFENSE TO GET ON TRACK. GAME 10 REFLECTED THE IMPROVEMENT THE TEAM HAD MADE , AFTER BEING DEFEATED CONVINCINGLY IN THEIR 1ST MEETING , ST JOHNS PLAYED 1ST PLACE ST VINCENTS CLOSE FOR 3 AND ½ QUARTERS LOSING ON A 4TH QUARTER RUN OF POINTS BY ST VINCENTS. LINDSEY KOCHER AND SARA SCHIFFLER CONTINUED THEIR STRONG OFFENSIVE SHOWINGS. AMBER BREYER, STACEE MILLER, AND CONNOR ORCUTT PROVIDED A STEADY PRESENCE ON THE BOARDS. THE 11TH GAME OF THE SEASON HAD ST JOHNS PLAYING A PIVOTAL GAME AGAINST ST MARYS OF LANCASTER. CLOSE ALL THE WAY SISTERS , LINDSEY AND LAUREN KOCHER TEAMED UP TO PUT THE GAME AWAY. LAUREN SCORED ON AN INBOUNDS PLAY AND LINDSEY MADE 2 FREE THROWS WITH 10 SECONDS LEFT TO GIVE ST JOHNS THEIR 3RD WIN OF THE SEASON. ANGELYN BROWN AND CONNOR ORCUTT HAD STRONG DEFENSIVE GAMES FOR THE LADY PANTHERS. ST JOHNS FINISHED THEIR SEASON WITH A LOSS TO NARDIN. AGAIN, THE GIRLS SHOWED SUBSTANTIAL IMPROVEMENT IN KEEPING THE DECISION IN QUESTION UNTIL A LATE SCORING BINGE BY NARDIN SEALED THEIR FATE. THE VARITY GIRLS FINISHED THE REGULAR SEASON AT 3 WINS AND 9 LOSSES, BUT THE 2ND HALF OF THE SEASON REFLECTED A MORE DETERMINED TEAM THAT WAS BEGINNING TO LEARN THE MEANING OF TEAMWORK. THE VARSITY GIRLS , AT THE TIME OF THIS ARTICLE , ARE PARTICIPATING IN THIER PLAYOFFS. LOOK FOR AN UPDATE IN THE WEEKS TO COME.
